Williams - Why I [Still] Want My MTV
"The goal here is to understand the superfluity and plasticity of the human experience and awareness of the world; how that world can be articulated and understood in different ways." Williams pg. 167
Music at its essence is the understanding and rational we have attributed to our world put into rhythmic and semiotic senses. With the Aesthetic, Aisthesis and Synesthesia we find further means to categorize these interpretations and meta-meanings to our ideologies. When we take into account typical aesthetics we build a set mind view of how something should be in terms of spacial and internal characterizations. A person sees something that really works and afterwards anything else similar never lives up to this set expectation. Is it wrong? Not entirely, but from the aesthetic mindset it can be very wrong and upsetting depending on the audience and their prior knowledge.
"The visual things I see appeal to my sight and to other senses as well." Williams p. 183
When a video or imagery of any type appeals to the individual on a macro scale such as the entire sense of being; an artist has then truly created something worthwhile. When a single person can feel the very essence of the music and vision through their soul it is safe to say one has given a near perfect embodiment of ideas. To touch something that important and viable is a once in a life time thing. Similarly when music makes an individual cry, laugh or enrage it is just as important. Meaning that comes with what we can see, hear, touch, taste, smell and ultimately take as part of our own being in the mind is something we all strive for in our works of life. We each want to be something to someone. In this great sense it is understood that true artists are capable of being the whole world to their fans.
